Arkas Locomotive Investment

Believing that supporting on-site production in Turkey is the key to Anatolia's development, Arkas has invested in railways for many years, bringing innovation to the Turkish logistics industry and buying a locomotive. The company, which ordered five Euro Dual model locomotives with an investment of 38.5 million Euros, will receive three of the locomotives in 2025 in the first place. With environmentally friendly locomotives, it will transport import-export containers from Turkey's leading industrial cities to Turkey's largest ports with scheduled flights.

Acting with the belief that connecting Anatolian cities to ports by rail will encourage on-site production and has been investing in this direction for more than 20 years, Arkas, with the motto "The Power Behind Logistics", makes pioneering investments in developing the logistics industry, with Arkas Rail, which it established under the umbrella of Arkas Logistics, within the scope of the 'Arkas Anatolia Project'. In the 100th anniversary of the Republic, it continues to break new ground by using the advantage of the railway to connect Anatolia to ports and the world at affordable costs.

Arkas Rail, with an investment of 38.5 million Euros, joins Stadler Rail Valencia S.A.U. While ordering five Euro Dual model, diesel and electric locomotives from the company, it is also planning to purchase nearly 100 wagons. Thus, the company aims to offer its customers a faster and safer transportation service with lower cost advantages.

Making a statement on the subject, Arkas Logistics CEO Onur Göçmez said, “It was very important to purchase a locomotive in order to be able to carry on scheduled services on the railway. With the Liberalization of Railway Transport Law in Turkey, the private sector was given the opportunity to invest in locomotives. As a company that has been investing in railway equipment and land terminal for many years, we are planning to provide service to the entire sector with the investment of five locomotives, three of which will be delivered in 2025, under the umbrella of Arkas Rail company, breaking new ground in the sector. In addition to this, we are working on purchasing another 100 wagons in addition to our 700 self-owned wagons. Thus, Arkas Rail will transport import-export containers on scheduled flights from Turkey's leading industrial cities such as Kayseri, Konya, Ankara, Gaziantep and Eskişehir, which it currently transports by rail, to Turkey's largest ports. On the other hand, it will serve with reciprocal block train services in rail container transportation, which continues to increase between Turkey and Europe, especially with countries such as Germany and Poland. This investment, which we will offer as a new service to the Turkish logistics industry, is an activity focused on port logistics, that is, container traffic, and will support the railport in Kartepe in the North and the land ports in Mersin Yenice in the South."

Environmental Locomotives

The most important feature of locomotives is that they are environmentally friendly. Thanks to the fact that the electric locomotives that emit zero carbon emissions also have a diesel engine, in case of a malfunction in the railway lines or power lines without electricity, they will be able to continue their transportation without interruption by switching from the electric engine to the diesel engine.

Route scheduled services to Europe and the railway Silk Road

Railport, the land terminal established by Arkas in partnership with Europe's largest intermodal logistics terminal operator duisport, in Kartepe, which has been shown as one of the best examples of complete logistics applications, the importance of which has increased in recent years, is planned to start operating in 2024. While Railport is a transfer terminal where the cargo on trains coming from and going to Europe can be unloaded and handled again, Arkas will carry out European transports from here to Kapıkule with its own locomotives.

On the other hand, Arkas Logistics, which started the first rail transport on the BTK (Baku-Tbilisi-Kars) railway line in 2017, carries cargo to Europe in transit with the Marmaray connection on the China-Turkey Iron Silk Road with its company Arkas Rail, which it established last year. While these newly opened transportation corridors offer the opportunity to transport Turkey's export cargoes to other new countries by rail, due to Turkey's geographical location, transit cargoes between Europe and Asia can be transported through Turkey, increasing the demand for rail transportation in Turkey, thus new generation locomotives and wagons. enabling investments to be accelerated.

With an average annual growth rate of 6 percent for 20 years, India is expected to be the third largest economy in the world in 2030 and the second largest economy in 2075. The country, which has managed to attract large investments in recent years, is also the new favorite of the global economy. The corridors established in global geopolitics are always focused on connecting India with Europe and the US. The North-South Corridor signed in 2000 and the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor signed this year reveal the importance of India. In this context, being in India will add great strength to us."

As a continuation of this strategy, we aim to position ourselves strongly and firmly on the trade flow route from Southeast Asia to the Gulf, from Europe to the USA by acquiring Fretlog in India. This strategic investment will facilitate our domestic and international customers' access to the US and Asian markets. We closely follow the US-India trade outside Turkey and our region. With Fredlog and our company in the US, one of our most important goals will be to take advantage of the logistics opportunities created by the annual trade volume of 200 billion dollars between India and the US. As Arkas Logistics Group, our international organization will be further strengthened with Fretlog, our end-to-end logistics service network. On the other hand, we continued our growth in Europe with the office we opened in Romania this year and the service contract we signed between Duisport and Hupac for intermodal transportation."

"We will add value to Arkas with our experience in India"

Muharrem Dursun, Managing Partner of Fretlog, stated that Arkas Logistics' strength in global markets will make a great contribution to Fretlog and added: "Fretlog, which has branches in important trade regions of India such as Mumbai, Chennai and Pune, will add value to the Arkas Logistics group with its experienced staff and organization. Fretlog is a company with more than 20 years of experience in India, providing end-to-end logistics services to customers in the automotive, pharmaceutical, agricultural machinery, ceramics, marble, construction materials and textile industries. Arkas Logistics at Logistech Fair!

Logistech Logistics, Warehousing and Technologies Fair, organized for the second time by Izmir Fair Services Culture and Art Affairs Trade Inc., offers its visitors an experience where the entire supply and need chain of the Logistics sector is together.

The integrated service chain and innovations of Arkas, which employs 8300 people with its 63 companies, were presented by Arkas Line, Arkas Logistics, Shipeedy Logistics, Arkas Rail, Marport, Autoport, Limar and Railport, which are the main business lines of Arkas, the Maritime Group, Logistics Group, Port and Terminal Services Group companies. Can Atalar, CEO of Arkas Line, said: "In 2023, our priority was to improve the performance of our existing services. We have started to introduce additional ships to some lines where we will have difficulty in providing weekly service. The additional ships will create a new capacity of approximately 30 thousand TEU per year. We are also working on new routes. We will announce our new route at the end of the year. Various factors in the world will cause changes in supply chains. Concepts such as "friendshoring - allyshoring - reshoring - nearshoring", which have recently entered our literature, are the harbingers of this change. Turkey has the potential to attract many investments with its geographical location and quality production. Increased production will also accelerate the Turkish maritime sector. However, it is necessary to start investments at sea and on land in order to catch up with this output."

"We continue to renew the ships in the fleet"

"As Arkas Line, we continue to renew the ships in our fleet in line with our long-term sustainability and emission targets. Accordingly, we are prioritizing the upgrade of vessels with low CII performance in our fleet by investing in alternative vessels compatible with eco-design and new nearshore technologies. We believe that our technical and operational improvements will help us achieve our goal of minimizing the environmental impact of our business while leaving a more sustainable world for future generations. On the other hand, we have orders for ships that can use alternative fuels on our agenda. However, we are still in the process of evaluating the "right" options for Arkas Line due to the uncertainties in fuel supply and the fact that investments are spread over long periods such as 20 years."

"India will help us become a global player"

Arkas Logistics continues its investments and growth with its strong organizational structure in Turkey, which stands out as one of the world's most important production centers.

Onur Gocmez, President of Arkas Holding Logistics Group, said: "We are increasing our offices in the world's most important markets. We are strengthening our presence in global markets with investments that support end-to-end logistics from the USA to China. In our 3 thousand square meter closed warehouse and office, which we opened in New Jersey, USA in March 2023, we offer door delivery FTL/LTL final transportation, storage and customs clearance services to every region of the country. We also produce logistics solutions for shipments from global markets to the USA. One of our most important investments as a logistics group is India. India, which stands out in new trade corridors, will be effective in making us a global player. We opened an office in Romania, where the largest number of Turkish companies operate in Europe. We will be involved in logistics activities both between Turkey and Romania and between Romania and European countries. On the other hand, with our office in Poland, one of Europe's largest Logistics market and export centers, we will build Logistics bridges between Turkey - Poland, Europe - Poland, USA - Poland, Far East - Poland."
